Minecraft Ghast Christmas Ornament Tutorial

Is everyone ready for more Minecraft? I know my family is. I've been searching the internet for days on Minecraft ornament ideas. We made a few out of perler beads and some out of craft foam. This time I came across the idea from our lovely youtube. People are using square clear ornaments from Michaels.

Well, Micheals were completely out of these ornaments and so I found a website that sells them and they are cheap. The website is called Sunshine Crafts.  This website is filled with loads of various types of crafts that would keep you browsing for hours. Click here to go the their website to purchase the ornament.

Supplies
square ornament
primer (Gesso-white or clear) (I used white Gesso) Click on link below for Gesso:
paint brush
grey acrylic paint
white acrylic paint
black acrylic paint
protectant coating (like varnish or spray, etc)

Instructions

1) Paint a coat of Gesso or primer onto the ornament (I used white Gesso). We do this because it helps the paint go on easier as well as preventing it from chipping. Let dry. See picture below...

A coat of white Gesso
2) Next, I mixed a tiny amount of grey with a generous amount of white paint to make a light grey just like the Ghast. Let dry…

3) Then, I drew on the Ghast's face with a pencil (very lightly). I don't have a picture of this, sorry.

4) After you draw the face on, I then drew the pixel block on the other sides of the ghast and I tried to get as accurately as possible but I wasn't too worried.

5) Then, I got all of my paint colors ready (white, black, grey). My grey was a little dark and so I put a drop of white paint and mixed together. I didn't want it to be as light as the one I used to cover the whole ghast but just slightly lighter than the original grey.

6) Then, you start painting the face on. I started with the top and worked my way down. I suggest using a small paint brush for this because it is very difficult to get perfect squares. The next one I make, I will use some square stamps that I made to get the perfect square. If it works I will post a tutorial. I think if it works, it will be much faster.

7)After you are satisfied and finished painting and it is dry, then you need to paint on the protective coating, (I used Triple Thick) You can use any protective coating (varnish is a good one too).

Instead of using the wire ornament holders that you can purchase, I just used some craft wire I had already at home and it worked perfect!

Now you should have a wonderful Minecraft Ghast Christmas Ornament! Congrats! Here is a picture of the ornament I made hanging on our tree.

Minecraft Creeper Coolie Cup

Yes, more Minecraft!!!! We just can't get enough Minecraft at our house. We are constantly thinking of new items we can make. Minecraft just doesn't have many items that they sell and if they do they are so expensive! So my children and I are always looking for new crafts. I actually find myself looking for anything square and thinking to myself, "oh man, I could make a creeper out of that, or a grass block, etc." My children have me even listening to Minecraft songs! :)

So I want to share another craft that we made. I bought a green coolie cup for $1 at Walmart and I have black craft foam already at home along with some glue and that is it. If you don't have black craft foam, you could use black paint or markers. This is and can be such a cheap, easy, and fun craft.

I cut out the shape of a creeper face with the craft foam and glued it onto the green coolie. Here are some pictures.

Elf On The Shelf Ideas

Here is a layout I did with my boys and our Elf on the shelf arrival, Sparkles Magical. The background is the actual letter to them from Santa. I hope you enjoy it.

Sparkles wrote the boys a letter telling them that he gets into things because he either gets bored or if they aren't listening to mom and dad it makes him naughty at times and then Santa isn't happy. That really made them settle down. At least…….for now….lol

Here is Sparkles relaxing on the boys entertainment center.

Here he has a maker along with some goodies for the boys. The marker is evidence for the picture below.

Here Sparkles put toilet paper all over our tree and then wrote "Preston and Spencer did this!" uh oh!

Here, Sparkles is holding a Minecraft paper craft hostage along with chapstick in his back pack and our Castle Crasher men are prepared to fight!. The boys know he was just playing.

Sparkles had fun drawing funny faces on our family pictures! When we woke up we saw him trying to hide the evidence behind a picture! naughty naughty!

He had too much fun!

DIY Minecraft Ornaments

Hello all, I want to share our Minecraft ornaments that we made with you. I both some pearler beads and my 9 year old made a Creeper face out of them by himself. Then we decided to make a grass block out of craft foam.

I know there are more Minecraft lovers out there. If you are like us, you find ways to make Minecraft things out of everything! My boys live and breath Minecraft and I am starting to love it too.

I wanted to share the ornaments we made and they are so easy to make. I ordered some clear glass cubed ornaments and I am waiting for them to come in the mail but in the mean time, we get creative on other ways to make ornaments.

These ornaments are extremely easy to make. Both my boys made them.

Elf on the Shelf Has Arrived

Hello all!

Yesterday was Thanksgiving and The boys have learned what Thanksgiving is all about and why we celebrate it! We sat around the table and said what we are Thankful for and my youngest son, looks over at me and says, "I'm thankful for you mommy and my family." My heart just melted! He said he loved Thanksgiving. It really made my day!

The boys had a visitor that made their day yesterday. Sparkles Magical, is his name and the kiddos get so excited when he is around. They spent all day yesterday guarding him so that he didn't get touched and would lose his magic. My husband and I enjoy figuring out what to do next with him. Preston woke up extra early to see where he is today. This magical tradition brings joy to our family. The kids get a long better, the magic of christmas is much more "magical". When I was a child, I believed in the magic of christmas so much that I still want to believe and so I am able to give that to my children and I can see the joy in their eyes that I once felt as a child myself!

Stay tuned to see all of the wonderful ideas and mischief that Sparkles will get into. We try not to go overboard because then they expect it and it is overwhelming for my husband and I to come up with more and more elaborate ideas. So we stick to cute and small and the boys love it just fine!

So here is how Sparkles arrived at our house for the second year and the boys loved it!
Our elf, Sparkles, arrived with a note from santa, a notepad around his neck that is a "checkoff" notepad that he gives to santa every night reporting how the boys have been.

this is the notepad that Sparkles had around his neck. You can put anything on there you want.

Here is our note from Santa:

I got this blank santa letter here

The website is http://designeditor.typepad.com

The boys were so excited, they gave him some chocolate and we made him a book bag to carry things to and from the North Pole. Spencer put a crown in there for him to check off on his list.

So stay tuned for what happened and where Sparkles is today. Let me just say, he had chocolate on his face and brought magic elf seeds for the kiddos to plant. :)

Minecraft Ghast Halloween Costume

My son loves Minecraft and I am into making their costumes. This year my oldest son didn't really know what he wanted to be and so he changed his costume several times. He ended up wanting the be a Minecraft Enderman but we didn't get finished with it in time and so he put together a little mixture and still looked fantastic!

My youngest son loves Minecraft and so we are making Minecraft everything! This Halloween he wanted to be a Ghast and so the journey began.

To make this costume, I used things I had around the house and so this costume cost us nothing!

Supplies

Large size box (size is based on child) needs to be equal on all sides  (not rectangle, but more of a square/cubed).

White, black, red, and grey acrylic paint

White spray paint

a couple different size paint brushes

whatever you want to use for the Ghast's tentacles (I used exam table paper rolls)

Minecraft Creeper Pumpkin Tutorial

Ok, I finally had some time to post my how-to on carving a super cool Minecraft Creeper Pumpkin.

I didn't get to take too many "in process" pictures but I think what I have will help. I think that if you don't have a general idea on how to carve a pumpkin then maybe you shouldn't follow this tutorial. :)

My son absolutely LOVES Minecraft!!! I will be posting pictures soon on a how too make a Minecraft Ghast Costume for Halloween.

Supplies

pumpkin
Creeper template (or draw your own)
Carving utensils
imagination
Paint (if desired)

Instructions
1. I cut out a template I made and then taped it onto the pumpkin so that I could trace it lightly onto the pumpkin.

2. Then I cut out the top to make a lid. (Don't forget to save the lid so that you can place it back on the pumpkin later.

3. Take out all of the stuffing in the pumpkin and save it for later to make pumpkin pie or to plant seeds next spring!!

4. Then, start cutting out the face that you traced. I didn't take a picture of this part but you get the idea.

Next, if you have a curious 6 year old that is FULL of questions-you will probably have to answer a few questions such as this one that my 6 year old asked me…

Son: "Mommy is this pumpkin still alive?"
Me: "What do you mean, he never was alive except for on the vine."
Son: "Yes he was. Now he isn't alive anymore because you took his guts out" What are we going to do now" I bet he is hurting really bad."

I had a hard time answering that….. LOL.

5. We coated our pumpkin with a  acrylic varnish and let it dry REALLY well before we lit it with a candle. We did this to help the pumpkin last a little longer.

Here is our Creeper pumpkin! (Yes, he is sitting on our toilet, and this is because our bathroom has no windows and we wanted it dark. :) )

We did one more step…...

6. We painted the pumpkin green on the outside and then just the sides of the mouth black to match the creeper colors.

We LOVED the end results! My boys loved it and that is what counts!
