DIY-Play Laptop for Children-(Dip Into Your Imagination and Pretend) :)

Ok,

I haven't posted in a while and so I am posting several different things tonight. This post is something that I wanted to share with everyone that has children and they like to pretend.

My 6 year old loves to pretend and he loves to draw. The boys love paper crafts. They especially love it when I print certain characters or whatever I can find and make it into 3D characters. He now has this thing where he makes us our own cardboard crafts and we have to cut them out and glue them together. He also draws various things on paper and had made his own play laptop out of paper and tapes his blank piece of paper on the play laptop screen and draws his art at the moment and then brings it to us and says he made this on the computer and printed it out for us. It is just the cutest thing in the world.

So it got my crazy brain thinking.... (dangerous....I know!) about making him a semi-realistic laptop from printing it off the computer. I found various pictures off of the internet of a laptop keyboard and then a laptop screen and altered them to my liking and then glue them onto foam board and cardboard and colored around the edges black. I then used construction paper for the top. I even made it to where he can open and close it like a real laptop. It was a bit tricky but I finally got it to work and it actually stays open for him to type or whatever and then he closes it when he is done. After everything was dry, I sprayed it with clear lacquer and let it dry. Then I took a wooden sculpting tool that I had and scored the lines in-between the keys on the keyboard to make it look and feel realistic and it turned out pretty good. I could have made it look even better if I would have taken more time but I wasn't sure if he would really care about it. Well, he was extremely excited and think he is cool with his laptop. :)

Imagination is a beautiful thing!!!! I don't think I ever lost mine. To this day, I want to believe there is more out there than just us (fairies). :)

Well, if you would like to know all of the specifics of how I made the laptop and what supplies I used, just contact me or comment me and I will be happy to go over it with you.

Here are some pictures of the finished laptop.

So here in these pictures if you look close, you can see the keyboard and where I scored the in between the keys and it looks soooooo real and even feels real. Doing that part to the keyboard really made it feel real to him and me. He liked it before but it made it better. It is a must step if you decide to make one for someone. :)

In this picture, you can see the screen and it looks realistic (pay no attention to the colored boxes on the screen, we used scrap paper for this and loaded it wrong in the printer) however, my son wanted it to stay on there because he said it looked real. :)

I hope that you decide to make one. You will be glad you did because any child with a great imagination that loves to 'pretend' will have a ball with it!

Cassie :)

Free Minecraft Chore Chart & Award System with Printables

Hello, When it comes to chores in our house, it becomes a CHORE to get them to do chores-pun intended! They would rather play Minecraft all day long or just play all day long! Not only do they NOT want to do chores but they also think they should bet a toy everyday and in-between that comes candy every time we walk into the store. I had to figure out a system to get them to do their chores and make it a bit fun too. They need to learn responsibility in this world because you have to work for what you want. Yesterday, my 10 year old says, "mom, can I have this new star wars lego toy? It only costs $99." I said, "uh, no but you can save your chore money and buy it that way." He says to me-just as serious as he could be, "all you got to do is go to the bank and take it out or write a check and get money anytime you want." um.....yeah.....it doesn't work that way. The bank does not just give you money, you have to earn it and then put it in there....

Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare Papercraft

Plants vs Zombies Papercraft (Gargantuar) Hello all! I wanted to share a paper craft that I made with my oldest son for his 11th birthday last weekend. He is so sweet, he said that all he wanted for his birthday was a paper craft of his favorite character from PVZ Garden Warfare, Gargantuar.  He and I searched and searched and found a fantastic designer that designs paper crafts of all kinds. Visit his deviantart site HERE . His name is Jeff and his Deviantart name is Jepi12. Not only are his designs the best I have seen but he is absolutely wonderful to work with. He responds to messages quickly and really helped to make my son's birthday the best it could be. You have got to check out his designs. He has a design for everyone! Here is the design of Gargantuar that we did and then I will show you our finished project. My boys and I made the paper craft together. Here is a picture of the Gargantuar. Click on the picture and it will take you to Jeff's site. ...

Minecraft Sword Tutorial Using Wooden Blocks

The boys LOVE Minecraft and have gotten me hooked on it too! Here is a tutorial that my boys and I did together and it was so easy! I got the idea off of youtube from username, "Ihascupquake" She does a bigger version of the sword and I changed a couple of things. I also do mine a little different than she does her sword as far as color, size, etc. I've got many more tutorials of Minecraft goodies. Minecraft bingo, v-day cards, and many more that I want to share with you. This sword is made using 1/2 in wooden blocks that are painted and then glued together. The tutorial on youtube was made using 1 inch blocks I believe. I wanted to make sure they would like it and it didn't take as long as it did when we did the 1 inch blocks. Plus, it was a perfect size that the boys could choose if they wanted it hung on the wall or some other way. I have to say that sometimes our crafts that we make always end up with me making the rest of it while the kiddos go play but t...
